Michael "Mike" Vaughn Shuler

Michael "Mike" Vaughn Shuler went to be with his Lord on August 8th, 2026, after a courageous battle with Alpha-1 and cancer.

He was the son of Charles Luther Shuler Sr. and Mildred Cowan Shuler. He rejoined his wife, Carrie Shuler and brother Chip Shuler.

He is survived by his two daughters, Annamarie (Matthew) Bradley and Kelly (Keith) Edwards ; eight grandchildren: Sadie Anne, Andrew, Joseph, and Charles Edwards, and Samantha, Kayleah, Jennifer, and Quin Bradley; his loving girlfriend Amy Vaughn and her family; his sister Linda Shuler, and his brother Bob Shuler.

Born and raised in Sylva, North Carolina, Mike fell in love with cars at a young age. This passion led him to dirt track racing and a lifelong career as a mechanic. He spent over two decades as a mechanic at Western Carolina University. It was also in Sylva that he met and fell in love with Carrie, with whom he built and raised a family with.

Throughout his battle Mike stayed positive and kept his faith, always striving to look on the bright side of life.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Service at 2:00pm. The family will receive friends at Appalachian Funeral Services from 1:00pm until 2:00pm prior to the chapel service.
