Nancy Leming Farmer

February 13, 1942 — April 2, 2024

Nancy Leming Farmer, 82, joined her loved ones Tuesday, April 2, 2024, after a short period of declining health at Skyland Care Center of Sylva.

A resident of the Rolling Green Community of Sylva, she was born in Haywood County, the youngest of 10 children, to Rufus and Mabel Leming. She had resided in Jackson County since 1964. Nancy retired from Jackson County School System in 2000, after 30 years of service. She served first as school secretary/office manager at Sylva-Webster High School, then as data entry specialist at the Board of Education Central Office. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Sylva for over 50 years, active in her Sunday School class and the Dorothy Edwards Missions Circle.


She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Jack M. Farmer, daughter-in-law, Janet W. Farmer, her parents and 9 siblings.


Nancy is survived by her sons, Alan Farmer (Kathy) of Sylva and Phillip Farmer (Renée) of Cashiers. She was affectionately known as “Nan and Gran” to 4 grandchildren, 2 bonus grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.


Private family graveside services will be held at a later date, where she will be interred beside her beloved Jack
in Greenhill Cemetery, Waynesville.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sylva First Baptist Church Raise the Roof Fund, 669 W. Main Street or to Skyland Care Center, 193 Asheville Hwy, Sylva.


The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Four Seasons Hospice especially her nurses, Samantha and Savannah, and Dr. Amy Hinton, and also the Staff of Skyland Care Center, notably Jamal and Jennifer, for their exceptional care of Mom.
