Nancy Putnam

August 16, 1931 — June 9, 2022

Nancy R. Putnam passed away peacefully on June 9, 2022, at the age of 90 at her home in Cullowhee, NC with her family by her side. Nancy was born in San Antonio,Texas on August 16,1931, to Jack and Ruth Pytel. Nancy graduated from Fox Tech High School in 1949. She worked for the United States Air Force at Kelly AFB and McClellan AFB for 36 years and retired on April 1,1986 in Sacramento, CA. She met and married the love of her life, James S. Putnam Sr., they were married for 65 years. After retiring, she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motorhome, especially to San Antonio where she was born and raised. She continued to thrive in life always being the life of the party, even at her 90th birthday party that was celebrated last August in San Antonio, Texas. She especially loved going to the Jackson County Adult Day Care Center five days a week, to be with her special friends who loved her dearly. She loved animals and always enjoyed sitting outside singing to the birds, watching the turkeys, deer and all the other wildlife surrounding the house. Her love for BINGO, gambling,  and working out in the yard were a few of the things that she truly enjoyed throughout her life. Nancy loved her annual reunion in Las Vegas, NV with her brothers and sister. She was a die hard San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Cowboy fan throughout her life always cheering them on. She loved her rescue cat Moochie and three dogs, Bentley, Penny and her new puppy Bella. Nancy lived the last three years of her life with her daughter Debbie and husband Steve caring for her. She also enjoyed receiving phone calls from all her children making her laugh and bringing joy to each day. 

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James S. Putnam Sr., her Mother, Ruth Pytel and sister Emily Ehrenfeld. She is survived by her children, James (Lorelei) Putnam, San Antonio, Texas, Debbie (Steve) Keener, Cullowhee, NC, Brenda (Randy) Faulkner, Mililani, Hawaii, Linda (John) Stowell, Syracuse, Utah. Grandchildren Michael (Judy), Ginger, Brandon, Great Grandchildren, Charlie, Michael, Joseph, Rayshawn and Kennesa. Great Great-Grandchildren, Kingston Rene. Brothers John Pytel (Jean) and Dan Pytel ((Rosie) and many nieces, nephews and countless friends. 

A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Mother of God Catholic Church in Sylva, NC at 11:00 am on July 14, 2022. Reverend Paul Asoh will officiate. Services will be held at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest with her husband in San Antonio, Texas at a later date.
