Nellie Dillard Plemmons Moss, of Sylva, passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Friday May 15, 2026 surrounded by her immediate family and extended family at The Hermitage Assisted Living Facility in Sylva.

Nellie was a native and lifelong resident of Dillard Town, Sylva, NC. She was the daughter of the late Love and Mary Shephard Dillard. She was a 1954 graduate of Sylva Central High School, and the “Neatest” in her Superlatives. After graduation, she married Lawrence Plemmons and traveled the world as an Air-Force military wife and mother. After Lawrence retired from the Air-Force, they returned to their home in Dillard Town and she became a well-known, successful insurance agent in Sylva. She loved her church, family, friends, and community. She was a lifelong member of East Sylva Baptist Church. Also, she was a meticulous house keeper and dresser. Her favorite boutique was Krismart Fashions of Sylva. She was truly a Southern Lady!

She was preceded in death by her first husband Lawrence S. Plemmons, then later by her second husband Bobby Moss. She was also preceded in death by her siblings: Dixie, Betty Lou, Phillip and Ed Dillard; and her grandson, Bryan Plemmons.

Nellie is survived by her daughter and husband, Pam and Rick Wood of Sylva; a son and his wife, Greg and Shauna Plemmons of Whittier; a sister and brother-in-law, Wilma and Jerry Cooper of Atlanta, GA; and sister-in-law’s, Mary Lee Dillard and Naomi Turpin, both of Sylva, NC. She has four grandsons: Jeffrey Wood and wife Savannah, Jeremy Wood and wife Taryn, Brandon Plemmons and Sam Plemmons. Her great grandchildren are Addyson Wood and Reegan Byerly. Her step children include Randal Moss and wife Rita of Balsam, Jim Moss of Cashiers, and Teresa M. Buchanan and husband James of Concord. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were are planned for Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at Appalachian Funeral Services in Sylva, NC with the family receiving friends from 11am to 12pm. At the conclusion of the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Fairview Memorial Gardens with Dr. Scott Courtney officiating. Burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Her grandsons will be her pallbearers.

The family would like to thank The Hermitage Assisted Living Facility for their tender loving care of Nellie during her residency.
