Nicole Marie Proctor

d. January 24, 2021

Nicole Marie Proctor (née Morton), 80, aka Grammy, departed this Earth on January 24, 2021.  She was born in Albany, NY, on August 19, 1940, to the late Glenn and Myrtle (Distefano) Morton.

She was an excellent musician during her school years, making her way into the Florida All-State Band as a flautist.  Her musical genes were strong, as many of her children and grandchildren have also flourished in music.  In her youth, Grammy enjoyed horseback riding, motorcycles, fine art and modeling, later on, collecting and curating family heirlooms and adopting pets.  Grammy always had at least one or two canine companions.  She moved back and forth several times between West Palm Beach, Florida, and her adoptive home of Western North Carolina, ultimately settling into the mountains as her last home.  She was a real estate agent for many years, helping people set up in a new locale or find their forever homes.  Grammy’s quick wit and pointed sarcasm will be missed.

She is survived by her sister, Dr. Cheryl Logan; her children, Lori Wright (Keith Radell), Michael Haymond, Cheryl Stoe, and Robert Rasmussen; grandchildren, Kristen, Bradley, Jason, Michael, Stefan, Nicholas, Jonathan, Kelly, and Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Willow, Link, Zelda, Lily, David, and Abby.

Grammy is preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Morton; granddaughter, Sierra Rasmussen; and grandson, Zachary Wright.

The family is indebted to the dedicated staff at Autumn Care of Waynesville, who showed compassion, kindness, and love to Grammy and her family throughout the end of her life’s journey.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva.
