Patricia Ann Norman

July 10, 1951 — June 17, 2025

Sylva, NC

Sylva - Patricia Ann Norman, went to her heavenly home on June 17, 2025.

Patricia passed away peacefully in her daughter's loving arms. She was born on July 10, 1951 to the late Allen and Hattalean Norman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Norman.

Pat was a lifelong native of Jackson County and retired from North Carolina Department of Transportation as office manager. She spent much time in Raleigh helping to create the state's computerized fuel and oil program.

She was a creative lady whose diverse artistic pursuits included painting, drawing, writing poetry, and capturing life's beauty through photography. Her sharp mind thrived on true crime shows, solving mysteries before the detectives and conquering word games and quizzes with ease, and reading mysteries.

Pat had a love for music and she learned to play the piano at an early age. Her sister recalls many Sunday afternoons being spent around the piano singing hymns and an occasional country song. Her beautiful hands playing the piano brought so much joy to many through the years.

Yet, her greatest joy lay in sharing moments with her daughter and grandson, Sam. Her loving hands prepared many of the delicious meals they shared. Pat and her daughter shared an unbreakable and loving bond. She loved sharing the beauty of nature with her daughter, especially her vibrant flowers and mushrooms for them to photograph. Pat loved sitting on her porch having "intelligent conversations" with Sam, discussing everything from life and world events to old cars and his future. Sam says, "Grammy is the most empathetic listener who always understood and inspired him". He recalled how he could tell her things that he could tell no one else. Her nephew agreed with that statement as do countless others. Pat was generous, giving, and helping even when it meant she did without. She was a peacemaker wanting everyone to be happy. She truly lived a life of love.

Pat is survived by her daughter and best friend, Christina Kennedy; two grandchildren, Samuel Kennedy, Patricia Kennedy; and a grandpuppy, Marzie Kennedy. Also remaining are her sister, Susan Norman; a special nephew and his wife, Jason and Brandi Norman.

A very special private celebration to honor Pat's beautiful life will be held at a later date.

Appalachian Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.
