With loving hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, grandmother, and friend, Peggy Blanton McMahan, who departed this life on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the age of 91.
A devoted Christian, she lived her life grounded in faith and guided by love. She found great joy in gospel music and hymns, often filling her home with song. She shared a remarkable 71 years of marriage with her husband, LC McMahan. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and the great outdoors. An avid and competitive fisherman, she treasured the many days spent casting a line alongside her husband, creating memories that would last a lifetime.
She was gifted with her hands and heart. Crocheting and quilting were more than hobbies – they were expressions of her love. Many family members and friends will forever cherish the handmade treasures she so thoughtfully created. Above all else, her greatest joy was her family. She was the heart of every gathering, the steady presence in every storm, and the source of unwavering encouragement and love.
She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Terrie Graziosi; grandson, Derrick Cunningham; her father, Rev. Glen Blanton; her mother, Anniebelle Shuler Blanton; and her sister, Jessie Jones and Dessie McMahan.
She leaves behind her husband of 71 years, LC McMahan; her daughters, Pat Sluder (Mike); and Angie West (Jack) both of Sylva; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy of faith, strength and love will continue to live through each of them.
Funeral services will be held at Appalachian Funeral Home, with the burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Benji West, Josh Ward, Walter Middleton, Austin Greenhalge, Jack West, and Mike Sluder.
Though she will be deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior. Her life was a beautiful testimony of faith, family and enduring love.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, February 27, 2026, in the Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12pm - 1pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
