Phillip Michael Brooks

Phillip Michael Brooks, known for his skillful craftsmanship as a carpenter and furniture upholsterer, passed away on September 16, 2023, in Claremont, NC. He was born on November 14, 1964, in Jackson County. Phillip was a beloved partner, father, brother, and friend whose memory will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Phillip had an innate talent for working with his hands. His exceptional craftsmanship could be seen in every piece of furniture he created or restored. Whether it was shaping wood with precision or upholstering with care and attention to detail, Phillip's creations brought beauty and comfort to many homes. His dedication to his craft earned him the admiration and respect of his peers.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Phillip will be remembered for his love for his family. He adored his children, grandchildren and stepchildren, creating countless memories with them that will forever hold a special place in their hearts. His nurturing presence as a father and grandfather created strong bonds that will endure through generations.

An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Phillip found great joy in cheering on his favorite football team. Supporting them from the comfort of the living room floor while enjoying a sweet treat like ice cream or Little Debbie Cakes was one of his simple pleasures. Phillip found happiness in the little things in life and taught others the importance of finding enjoyment in everyday activities.

In his free time, Phillip enjoyed taking leisurely walks outside, appreciating nature's beauty wherever he went. There was something serene about strolling through scenic paths or along tree-lined streets that brought him peace and tranquility. He had a deep appreciation for the world around him and found solace in connecting with nature.

Phillip Michael Brooks was preceded in death by his parents Johnny Brooks Sr., Jacquelean Gibby Brooks Bumgarner; stepfather Jack Bumgarner; as well as grandparents Adam and Effie Brooks and Meral & Annie May Jones Moseman, sister-in-law, Glenda Brooks, grandfather of his children, Leonard Hoyle, and stepgrandson, Jayden.  While he leaves behind a profound sense of loss, his memory will forever be cherished by those he leaves behind.

Phillip is survived by his life partner, Tina Powell, who stood by his side through thick and thin. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Loria Carpenter (Ronnie), and the grandmother of his children, Georgia Hoyle. His legacy continues through his brother, Johnny Brooks, and stepbrother Mickey Bumgarner (Pam). Additionally, Phillip's children Michael Dustin Brooks and Anthony Shane Brooks will forever carry his love in their hearts. He also leaves behind stepchildren Brittany Powell (Bobby Ensley) and Brandon Powell (Ashley). His memory will be treasured by his step-nieces and nephews Baily, Jack, Riley, Macon, as well as his granddaughter Samantha Shelton, step-grandchildren Maddox, Addie, Bobby, and Emery.

Phillip Michael Brooks will be remembered for many things: his exceptional talent as a craftsman, his devotion to family, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. Though we mourn his passing, let us celebrate the beautiful life he lived and the legacy of love and craftsmanship he leaves behind. May his soul find eternal peace.
