Phyllis Wilson

Phyllis Lewis Wilson, 74 of Sylva, was called to her heavenly home Saturday, April 15, 2023, after a brief period of declining health. Phyllis was born February 12, 1949, in Jackson County, to the late Roscoe and Devola Hawkins Lewis of Little Savannah. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband Danny Wilson, her sister; Levon and her husband, Rev Dillard Moore; and brother, William “Bo” and his wife, Mildred Lewis.

Phyllis retired as a Magistrate in Jackson County after 30 years of service. She utterly enjoyed officiating weddings for hundreds of couples all over the county. Never one to be still, she also worked many years at Ray’s Florist which she thoroughly enjoyed. Her previous employment was Contel Telephone Company and Buster Brown Apparel where she met lifelong friends. She devoted her life to her family and her granddaughter, Morgan was the light of her life. You could always find Nana and Pops at the ball field where they never missed one of Morgan’s games. She loved the Lord, Danny (the love of her life), Conway Twitty (so much so she took Misti to 19 concerts), the Atlanta Braves, gardening, gospel music and her church family. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Phyllis is survived by her daughter, Misti Satterfield; son-in-law, Rusty; granddaughter, Morgan Satterfield, all of Knoxville, TN;  brother, Ray “Frog” Lewis and wife, Marlow of Sylva; nephews, Richard Moore, David “Toby” Moore (Renee) of Sylva; Brandon Lewis of Cullowhee; nieces, Rita Norris (Chuck) of Sylva, Kimberly “Kay” Wallace (Alan) of Dahlonega, GA, Melody Sutton (Tony) of Cullowhee; and several great nieces and nephews. Very special family, Carmela Brooks of Sylva.

The Family will receive friends from 5:00PM-7:00PM, Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva NC.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the funeral home.  Revs. Avery Brown & Eddie Stillwell, officiating.  Interment will follow at Stillwell Cemetery, Webster NC.

The family gives a heartfelt THANK YOU to the staff at Skyland Care Center for the wonderful love, compassion and care that they gave to Phyllis.
