Pierre earned his master's degree from Indiana State University. His academic journey led him to a fulfilling career in education and athletics. He served as a teacher, coach, and assistant athletic director at Indiana State University, where he contributed to the development of students both on and off the field.

Following his tenure in academia, Pierre transitioned into the corporate world. He worked for Xerox as a salesman to the Far East, expanding his horizons through international business. Later in his career, he specialized in selling computerized systems to libraries - a role that combined his technical acumen with his commitment to knowledge and learning.

Pierre had a zest for life that extended beyond his professional endeavors. He loved riding motorcycles and exploring new destinations with an adventurous spirit. Whether traveling to unfamiliar places or watching basketball games with enthusiasm, he embraced experiences that brought joy and discovery.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rotan Burke; his sister, Phyllis Glahn; his brother, Noel Burke; two daughters; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard Van Burke, and mother, Martha Fuller Burke.
