Ralph Gregory Ashton, 68, of Whittier passed away at his home surrounded by family on September 20, 2023.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Joni Ashton, son, William Ashton and daughter Emily Ashton. He is also survived by his brothers, Alan Ashton, Larry Ashton and sister Melinda Bruce, many nieces and nephews, and his dog Luna.
Ralph was an Army Veteran and loved his experience being stationed in Germany. He was also an Air Force "Brat" where he got his love of travel.
Ralph lived an adventurous life---hiking, canoeing and camping across the US. He took his family on a 3-year epic journey from Georgia to Maine to Texas to Alaska and everywhere in between! After the trip he brought his family home to the mountains of Western North Carolina where "the Lord provided air conditioning." (One of his favorite sayings!)
He had a brilliant and curious mind--he read and studied until the end of his life. He was clever with language and when you talked to him you had to laugh at his turn of phrase. He enjoyed meeting new people and sharing ideas. Anyone who met Ralph Ashton never forgot the experience.
He will be remembered by his wife and children every time we load the car for a hiking trip or a picnic or strap the canoe on top of the car. If the lottery gets big enough, we'll buy a ticket with your numbers! Your memory will be a blessing and we'll tell stories about you and your escapades!
