Ray B. Ashe

Ray B. Ashe, 97, of Sylva, was called to his heavenly home on Saturday September 16, 2023. He was born on February 14, 1926 in Cashiers, to the late T. Walter Ashe and Annie Jackson Ashe. Ray served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII. After the war, he attended school in Washington, DC and graduated from Elon University. During his career at AT&T, Ray lived in Burlington, North Carolina with his wife, Ruth and their two daughters, Brenda and Carolyn.

Ray and Ruth enjoyed traveling to Europe and Canada, as well as many destinations in the United States during this time. He always said no matter where he ventured his favorite place would always be the mountains of North Carolina.

After retiring Ray and Ruth moved back to their hometown of Sylva, where he was a member of East Fork Baptist Church since 1990. Ray enjoyed golf, hiking, and fishing during his retirement years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Carroll Ashe, and a grandson, Dan Lohwasseer, III.

His survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters, Carolyn Saviano (John), and Brenda Poole; sister, Dorothy English; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
