Rev. Charles Edward Carnes

Charles Edward Carnes went to be with his Savior in Glory Land on Sunday, January 14, 2024..

Born July 8, 1935, to the late Cance and Ellen Gibson Carnes, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Elbert and Junior Carnes, and four sisters, Helen Hensley, Eloise Chambers, Etta Lee Gates Freeland and Claudia Lark.

Married to Eula Leopard Carnes for 65 years, they were blessed with two children, Billy (Beverly) Carnes of Sylva and Erika Carnes Meekins (Michael) of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Maria Meekins Conrad (Shaun) of Randleman, Betsy Carnes Clayton (Brody) of Sylva, Michelle Meekins Brooks of Greensboro, Bryan Carnes (Amanda) of Sylva; and Bethany Meekins Stultz (Darrell) of Greensboro; and eight great grandchildren, Avery, Jada, Allie, Matthew, Addie, Annabelle, Benjamin and Charlie. His family was his pride and joy!

Charles served three years in the Army and was stationed in Germany for two years. In July 1971, he became pastor of Locust Field Baptist Church where he faithfully served for 36 years. Post retirement, he worked full time at his beloved home, founding the Carnes Hemlock Farm and maintaining the Carnes family homestead.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00am on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Long Branch Baptist Church. Rev. Mark Tice will be officiating. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Appalachian Funeral Services.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or Four Seasons Hospice.
