Richard Allen Ginn

Richard Allen Ginn, one of the sweetest, kindest men you could ever meet, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday night, August 23, 2026. Richard bravely battled health issues over the last six months, and he is now at peace.

Richard lived a life defined by faith, music, and devoted service to his community. He was a lifelong member of the Sylva First United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and attended faithfully every Sunday until his illness. Known for his gentle heart, he loved his church deeply and faithfully fed the church cats every morning. Always putting others first, Richard was always available to lend a helping hand with whatever anyone needed, never giving a second thought to himself. Beyond his local congregation, his passion for music extended to his long-time participation in the WCU Community Chorus.

Richard proudly served his country as a member of the Army National Guard. Professionally, he dedicated many years of service to Southern Railway prior to his retirement. Following his career with the railroad, he spent over 10 years serving on the staff at Sylva First United Methodist Church, where his warmth and kindness touched everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Sherry Ginn; stepsons, Ephrem and Lance Creasman; his sister, Susan Ginn Swan; his brother, Tommy Ginn (Anna); and his nieces and nephews: Lynette Ginn, Jeff Ginn (Holly), David Ginn, Danny Ginn, Kristy Swan Ikenberry (Brad), and Margaret Swan (Emily Cannon).

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Ginn and Alva Carden Ginn, and his brother, Joe Ginn.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Sylva First United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM at the church.
