Rita Baker

Rita Baker, 56 of Sylva, North Carolina passed away on October 4, 2026 at Mission Hospital. Born on October 12, 1969 in Atlanta, GA Rita was the daughter of Sadie Sparks and the late Carl Sparks. Rita grew up in Loganville, GA where she created a life centered around family. Rita worked several years as a hair stylist. Following life changes and medical complications, Rita later moved to Sylva, North Carolina to reside with her parents. 

Rita is survived by her children Kayleigh Meredith and Joseph Baker; as well as, her former husband Mike Baker. Rita leaves behind 6 grandchildren; Michael, Daylen, Ryleigh, Aleena, Alex and Theo. She also leaves behind a sister Lynn Park, brother Michael Sparks, many nieces and nephews, as well as, grand nieces and nephews. 

She was proceeded in death by her father Carl Sparks, brother Earl Park and sister Debra Kessler. 

Family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm on October 14, 2026 at Appalachian Funeral Home in Sylva, North Carolina. A funeral service to celebrate Rita's life will be held at 2pm. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Cemetery.
