In Loving Memory of Robert Lane

Robert Lane, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, left this world peacefully at his home on September 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia. Born on August 21, 1942, in Medford, Massachusetts, Robert was a man of quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and boundless love.

Robert was the beloved son of Daniel and Jean Lane, and he was predeceased by his dear siblings, Greg and Susan Lane. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Beverly, whom he adored and loved unconditionally, sharing an extraordinary 60-year journey of love and partnership. Together, they built a life filled with joy and adventure, raising two wonderful children, Schell and Leslie, in the warmth of their love.

A proud alumnus of Wilmington High School, Robert furthered his education with 100 credits in criminal justice from Miami Dade College. His commitment to service was evident early on, as he bravely served his country as a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, stationed in Iran. His service left him a disabled veteran, a testament to his sacrifice and resilience.

Robert found his calling in law enforcement, dedicating 13 years of his life as a motorcycle policeman for the City of Miami. His journey then led him and Beverly to the tranquil Blue Ridge Mountains, where they built a cabin that became a sanctuary for their family. For 25 years, Robert served Western Carolina University as a campus police officer, where his gentle demeanor and sincere interactions left a lasting impact on the students and staff.

In his personal life, Robert was a man of many passions. He found solace in the soil of his one-acre garden, nurturing corn and okra for his beloved Beverly. A dedicated beekeeper and animal rescuer, Robert’s compassion knew no bounds, and countless creatures found a loving home with him. He loved traveling on his motorcycle all over the U.S. and Canada with his wife. His quiet nature belied a deep well of care and kindness that touched everyone he met.

Robert’s legacy is carried on by his loving children, five cherished grandchildren, and one great-grandchild, who will forever hold his memory close to their hearts. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and quiet strength.

In accordance with his wishes, there will not be a service or memorial and he will reside at the veterans cemetery in Black Mountain, NC.

Robert Lane’s life was a beacon of love and dedication, and his memory will forever inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
