Rosemary Elders Segle, 94, passed away peacefully on January 24th, surrounded by the love of her family. Born during the Great Depression in Whittier, North Carolina, Rosemary grew up in a world marked by hardship, yet she carried through her entire life a spirit defined by love, faith, and humor. She later made her home in Gaffney and Boiling Springs, South Carolina, where she spent her remaining years.
Throughout her long life, Rosemary witnessed profound changes in the world around her. She saw sixteen presidents take office. She endured the loss of her older brother in World War II and supported her husband, Raleigh Jack Segle, as he served in the Korean War. She also experienced the heartbreak of saying goodbye to seven siblings who passed before her. Through every trial, she remained steady—her faith unshaken, her humor intact, her heart open.
Rosemary had a deep and abiding love for children, babies, and the Lord. Anyone who knew her could see the joy she found in the laughter of little ones—often watching giggling baby videos or chuckling at a funny story. Her wisdom was gentle, her humor contagious, and her presence comforting. Conversations with her were something her family cherished; they were filled with warmth, insight, and shared laughter.
Her greatest devotion was to her children: Darrell, Debbie, Glenda and Gary. She was equally devoted to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. She also had three grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins along with many children she babysat who considered her their grandmother, whom she dearly loved and loved her beyond measure. They were the center of her world, and she poured her heart into raising them with love, faith, and resilience. Rosemary’s legacy is one of joy, steadfastness, and deep affection—a legacy that will continue to live on in the lives of those who knew and loved her.
A visitation will be held 2:00-3:00pm on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Appalachian Funeral Services. A private burial will follow.
