Shirley Jean Beck

Shirley Coggins Beck made her ascent to her eternal home on Tuesday evening, July 8, 2025, at the age of 72, after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born in Haywood County to Daniel and Mattie Coggins on August 3, 1952.

Shirley and Kenneth Beck, her husband of 48 years, had two children, Aaron Beck and Haley Beck. She has preceded them in her departure, as well as three grandchildren, Avett Derringer Faini, Wylen Jayne Faini, and Beatrix Lane Beck.

Shirley was a graduate of Sylva-Webster High School. She retired from her position as a Library Technician from Western Carolina University, where she was also the 2012 recipient of the Judy H. Dowell Outstanding Support Staff Award. Shirley was a beloved member of Lovedale Baptist Church. She was affectionately known for her Dove chocolate ministry, and for warmly greeting every newcomer to the church upon entry. Shirley touched many lives and made countless contributions through her career, her Church, and beyond.

The family has conducted a private memorial to honor Shirley and sincerely appreciates all thoughts and prayers during this time.
