Theodore Roosevelt Hensley, Jr.

Theodore Roosevelt Hensley, Jr., fondly known as JR., breathed his last breath on August 17, 2023, leaving behind a trail of cherished memories and a legacy that will continue to inspire. He was born on December 16, 1959, in Jackson County, the pride and joy of his parents, the late Theodore Hensley, Sr. and Birdie Rowland Hensley.  JR.'s final moments were spent at Mission Hospital in Asheville before he embarked on his eternal journey.

JR.'s presence had an enchanting aura that effortlessly drew people in. He never met a stranger and possessed an innate ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. His selfless nature shone through, as he always extended a helping hand to those in need without hesitation. JR.'s kind-heartedness was the cornerstone of his character and touched the lives of countless individuals fortunate enough to cross paths with him.

Throughout his life, JR. exemplified the virtue of compassion towards others. He had an unwavering commitment to lending support, offering guidance, and being a dependable confidant to his loved ones. No matter the circumstances, he was someone upon whom you could always rely—a steadfast pillar of strength amidst life's challenges.

In 2007, JR. suffered a stroke which left him paralyzed on his left side.  For 16 years, he never lost his sense of humor.

To honor JR.'s remarkable existence and bid him farewell fondly, a Graveside Service will be held on August 22, 2023, commencing at 2:00 PM at Hensley Cemetery. The cemetery is nestled in Whittier, North Carolina—a serene resting place befitting for someone as beloved as JR. The service will be an opportunity for all who knew and loved him to gather together, share memories, and find solace in each other's presence.

JR.'s passing leaves a void in the hearts of many, but his spirit lives on through those he held dear. He is survived by his brother JD Hensley, sisters Ruby (Billy) Herron and Judy (Bruce) Brooks, along with several nieces and nephews who were fortunate to have him as their uncle. Although JR.'s physical presence may be missed, the love and strength he instilled in his family shall endure, transcending time and space.

In addition to his immediate family, JR. held a special place in the hearts of his father Theodore Hensley, Sr., mother Birdie Rowland Hensley, and sister Emma Jo Locust who passed before him. He now reunites with them in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that binds them together forever.

JR.'s lineage boasts honorable ancestors whose love and teachings shaped him into the remarkable person he became. He carries forward the cherished memories of his grandparents Joseph and Callie Hensley, as well as Arthur and Bonnie Rowland—guardians of wisdom who have since embarked on their own celestial journeys.

As we bid farewell to this extraordinary soul, let us forever remember JR.'s boundless compassion, unwavering support, and contagious zest for life. May his memory serve as a guiding light amidst life's trials and tribulations. While we mourn the loss of a dear friend, brother, and uncle today, let us also celebrate the profound impact JR. had on our lives—an impact that will continue to resonate for generations to come.

In lieu of flowers or gifts during this difficult time, please honor JR.'s memory by continuing his legacy of kindness. Reach out to someone in need, lend a helping hand without hesitation or judgment—a lasting tribute to a man whose very essence was rooted in selflessness.

JR., your departure has left an indescribable void within our hearts, but your spirit remains eternally alive within us. Rest peacefully, dear friend, as we carry your love in our hearts till we meet again.
