Tommie Jean Nicholson

November 27, 1932 — December 31, 2021

Tommie Jean Rogers Nicholson beloved wife, mother and grandmother of Buchanan Loop Rd. in Webster went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 31, 2021. Tommie Jean was born on November 27, 1932, in Graham County. She was the youngest and last of nine children born to the late Tom Rogers and Lillie Wiggins Rogers of the Tallulah community of Graham County. She was preceded in death by five sisters, Ginger Parker, Jessica Haney, Marie Webster, Juanita Rogers, and Catherine Webster; Three brothers, Glenn, Howell, and Rube Rogers.

Tommie Jean Graduated from Robbinsville High School in 1951. She lived most of her life in Jackson County, in 1952 she moved to Sylva to work for Western Carolina Telephone Co. as a telephone operator. Tommie Jean later worked for three banks, Citizens Bank, Wachovia Bank, First Union Bank, and retired from Town of Sylva ABC Board as secretary bookkeeper to the board.


Tommie Jean enjoyed reading Louis L’Amour westerns, watching old movies, shopping, flea markets, spending time with her two grandsons, Adam and Andrew, family, friends, and traveling with her husband Tommy.

She was a member of Lovedale Baptist Church.

Tommie Jean is survived by her loving husband, Tommy of the home of almost 68 years; son, Gary Nicholson of Charlotte. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Tommie Jean will lie in state from 11:30-1:30pm at Appalachian Funeral Services on Wednesday, January 5, 2021 of friends that would like to pay their respects. A private Graveside Service will be held at 2:00pm at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Rev. Mike Farmer will be officiating. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Webster Memorial Cemetery fund, P.O. Box 115, Webster, NC 28788, or Western Carolina Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Park Rd. Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.

The family would like to thank the Hermitage and Four Seasons Hospice for their excellent care in her final days.
