Virgie Jones Bishop

Virgie Jones Bishop, 94, passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2026. She was born October 16, 1931, in Jackson County to the late Norman and Georgia Creasman Jones.

Virgie loved reading, needlepoint, playing cards, and bingo, her goal was always to win. Virgie was an exceptional lady who always had a smile for everyone, was kind, generous and caring. Several of nieces and nephews stayed with her and Fred after the loss of their parents and they loved each and everyone like they were theirs.

In the late 1960’s Virgie ran The Hideaway Restaurant just off the WCU campus where many college students “hung out”. She then worked for WCU in the Book Exchange until she retired after 20 years.

Virgie is survived by her son Fred Bishop Jr. (Gayle); sister in laws, Martha Bishop and Nellie Jones. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents, Virgie is preceded in death by her Husband, Fred Bishop Sr.; grandson, Chris Moore; and 11 siblings.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Rogers Cemetery. Rev. Brian Bishop will be officiating.
