Monroe Lindsey (a.k.a. Red Light) age 86 passed away Monday, June 9, 2025. He was born November 24, 1938, in Nash County to William Ernest and Appie Brooks Lindsey.
Monroe retired from NCDOT with 30 years of service. He loved spending time with his family, traveling to the mountains and to the beach, fishing, and old cars.
Monroe was a loving husband, brother, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He was a member of Barnes Hill Church serving in several positions.
Monroe was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Beulah, whom he shared 57 years of marriage and his second wife, Julia Farmer Lindsey, sharing nine years together and two brothers.
He leaves to cherish his memory; his children, Aubrey, Mike, Susie, and Bill and their spouses; a sister, Alberta Cobb; eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and seventeen great great grandchildren, his bonus children, Bonnie Winstead and Tracy Shearin and their spouses, a bonus granddaughter and her husband.
A Memorial Service for Monroe will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday June 28th at Appalachian Funeral Services with the Rev. Charles Dean and Rev. Eddie Stillwell officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 prior to the service.
