William E. Love

William Edward Love, lovingly known as "Love," peacefully passed away on July 18, 2024, at the age of 79. He was born on June 1, 1945, in Sylva, North Carolina, and most recently resided in Raleigh, NC.

William was a man of many passions. He had a great love for golf and could often be found on the green, enjoying the game he cherished. When it came to food, his favorites were salmon cakes and Key Lime pie. He had a deep appreciation for the musical groups of Motown from the 1960s, and his love for music was evident throughout his life.

An accomplished baseball player, William played the sport during his college years. However, his heart belonged to reading a good book and spending quality time with his sister, brothers, and close friends. He found solace and beauty in the mountains of North Carolina, which he considered his favorite place in the world.

William had a fondness for Western TV shows and had a knack for making others laugh with his infectious sense of humor. Throughout his career, he worked as a Business Manager at Shaw University and as an employee for the Internal Revenue Service. He lived by the motto of “always doing his best.”

One of William's proudest accomplishments was supporting the students at Shaw University, where he made a positive impact on their lives. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication and kindness.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Sylvester and Dorothy Love, brother, Tommy Love. He is survived by three children, Ellerna Forney (Thomas), Dana Bryson (Deb), & April Love-Williams (Ronald); sister, Mamie Sue Love and brother, Joe Love (Betty), 3 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his special friend and college roommate, Mr. Jesse Jones, and dear Shaw Alumni.

In the hearts of those who knew him, William Edward Love will forever be remembered for his laughter, love for golf, and his ability to bring joy to others. As we bid him farewell, let us honor his memory by embracing the values he held dear and always striving to do our best.

A memorial service in his honor will be held at Appalachian Funeral Services and Crematorium in Sylva on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:00 pm prior to the service. The final resting place will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Sylva.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations can be made to Shaw University in William’s honor.
