William "Bill" Thomas Nations

William "Bill" Thomas Nations, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Whittier, NC, on Friday, August 29th, 2025, at the age of 79. Born on July 19th, 1946, in Jackson County, Bill led a life rich with stories, service, and love.

Bill is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 55 years, Shelia Frizzell Nations. Together, they built a beautiful family, leaving behind a legacy through their children: daughter Donna Ann Cook (Thomas); daughter Tammy Nations Brown (Chris Wilson); and son Billy Eugene Pannell. His joy for life continues in his cherished grandchildren, Nathan Brown (Sloan), Sara Pannell and Garrett Pannell. Bill also shared a treasured bond with a special niece, Rachel Williams (Jake Mathis).

A proud veteran, Bill served his country with honor and dedication in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His experience and the values instilled during his service were evident in his everyday life. A self-employed hardworking man, he was known not only for his spirit but also for his passion for storytelling and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Bill had a connection to the outdoors and loved to visit the Big Laurel. As a true outdoorsman, he found peace and adventure during his many hunting expeditions, especially in Georgia, a place that captured passion for hunting and relaxing. His deep-rooted love for his family was matched only by his devotion to the Lord and the fellowship of his church community. As a deacon of Wilmot Baptist Church, he enriched the lives of many through his faith and kindness.

He is preceded in death by his father Hubert Nations, mother Gertie Nations, infant sister Rose Nations, and his brothers Curtis, Luther, and Darrell Nations.

The family invites friends and loved ones to join in celebrating Bill's life and legacy at a funeral service to be held on Tuesday, September 2nd, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Wilmot Baptist Church in Whittier, NC. The family will hold a visitation one hour prior, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.
